Tilaknagar Industries plans distillery expansion at Rajamundhry

Tilaknagar Industries is planning to set up a distillery in Rajamundhry in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs. 1500 million. The existing unit there will be ramped up from 50,000 cases of liquor to 4 lakh cases per month. It will produce Manson House brand of whiskey and the company has already obtained the license.

Grain based alcohol now cheaper than molasses based alcohol

Distillery are used to make alcohol from molasses- from sugar cane. However, with rising shortfall in molasses supply, grain based distillery is getting competitive. Rectified Spirit made from molasses in Maharashtra will cost roughly Rs.24 a litre and extra neutral alcohol will cost Rs.29. While to make the same from grains (jowar, broken rice or maize) will cost Rs.33/- which is close enough. With subsidy of Rs.10/- per litre it become very competitive. It will be even closer to not so damaged grains which is currently used for making alcohol.

Barcadi to enter TN market with launch of Barcadi White Rum

Barcadi, a global liquor giant has tied up with SNJ Distillery to launch two of its brand in Tamil Nadu. SNJ Distillery has a greenfield distillery at Madurantakam in Tamil Nadu with a capacity of 5 lakh cases which can be scaled up to 10 lakh cases. Barcardi would be paying per bottle fee for using its facility. Currently, it gets 20 cases of Black Rum and Carta Blanca rum from New Delhi every month. It has also got approvals for two other white rums and vodka. It may be noted, in Tamil Nadu, TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corp) controls wholesale and retail sale of liquor in the state.

Fratelli Wines to launch Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc brands

Fratelli Wines, an Indo Italian joint-venture company from the Solapur wine belt is all set to launch 4 wine brands in the coming years. It is setting up an in house wine farm with imported grape saplings from Italy with new techniques. It will focus on premium quality and will harvest only the best grapes to keep the quality sacrosanct and will have a maximum capacity of 6 lakh liters of wine per year. It plans to launch Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc two red wine brands and Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah white wine brands. These will be priced at Rs.600 to Rs.1200 per 750 ml bottle. The company plans to launch 12 varieties of red and white grape which will be blended like sparkling, vintages etc in due course
