National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management to come up at Kundli

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had approved the investment to set up National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management in Haryana. The institute is to be set up at Kundli in Haryana with an investment of Rs. 4791 million. The institute aims to be a global centre of excellence, integrating all facets of food science, technology, entrepreneurship, research and management. It will be recognised as the focal point for catalysing the growth of the food processing industries in India in the global context

Coca Cola commissions analytical testing service centre in Pune

Coca Cola has commissioned a analytical testing service facility in Pune with an investment of Rs. 180 million. Currently, the company was outsourcing such services through thirdy party providers. It is one of the 6 facilities in the globe. It is also one of the six plants where the coca cola concentrate is made. The centre will provide service to other 25 countries in the regions of Asia

CFRD sets up microbiology lab in Konni in Kerala

Council for Food Research and Development (CFRD) a joint-venture between Centre and State has set up a microbiology lab with an investment of Rs. 50 million. The modern lab which has come up on 35 acre will have facilities for analysing microbiological parameters for evaluating food quality and safety for human consumption. In second phase, CFRD will develop facilities for doing full range of chemical tests for evaluating nutritional composition for labelling and safety. It may also offer fulltime courses in Food Sciences in later stage.

Castor oil R&D unit to be set up

Castor oil which used to exported in bulk without any added value is going to see change for better. Dow India, subsidiary of Dow Chemical International and Royal Castor is planning to conduct research to develop usage of castor oil for various solutions. Currently, castor oil is used in adhesives, lubricants, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, soaps, paints etc., R&D will help to produce superior products. It may be noted, India is the world largest producer, exporter and consumer of castor oil.
