Food Authority to review milk ban from China

Following reports of milk contaminated with melamin, the Food Safety and Standards Authority has banned import of milk from China. The ban had been imposed in 2008 and is in force till June 2010. Recently, Chinese government has requested to lift the ban. However, media reports still suggests that issue is far from resolved. Chinese milk had been banned in several places including European Union and USA and they are yet to lift the ban. India imports only 10% of its need from abroad and hence the authority feels there is no pressing need to lift the ban.
