Hatsun Agro Products plans to expand its dairy presence

Hatsun Agro Products, a Chennai based company and a leading player in Southern India is planning to make a foray in northern markets. Its main products Arokya – toned milk, Arun Ice Creams are sold only in southern India. The company had recently built a milk powder plant at Palakood in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs. 1500 million, which has a capacity of processing 9 lakh litres of milk every day. It plans to expand its dealer network and also to set up captive power plants at its factories.

Anil Group to expand dairy operations

Anil Hospitality Ventures Ltd (AHVL), belonging to Vadodara based Anil Group is planning to expand its operations. It has bought 90% stake of Vigo Bio-tech, which is having its operations at Halol in Gujarat. Now, the company can cater to the entire value chain dairy farming, milk products etc., The company is planning to invest Rs. 750 million and has installed a high tech rotary milking parlour. Currently, the company procures milk from its own farm of 550 Holstein Friesian hybrid cows and may later from others when its scales up.

Cavin Kare launches “Cavin’s Milk’ in Kerala

Cavin Kare, a leading FMCG player in south India has launched “Cavin’s Milk’ in Kerala, where the demand outstrips supply. Currently, the demand is around 18 lakh liters per day, while the supply hovers around 12 lakh liters per day. The company estimates to sell 1 lakh liters /day initially and also plans to set up production facility in future. It is hoping to capture market by freshness approach by delivery of fresh processed milk within 24 hours.

Dairy Industry lobbies for custom duty

GCMFF, the leading milk producer in the country, on behalf of other producers has requested Prime Minister asking for introduction of custom duty of 15% on milk powder and 40% on butter oil. Also, they have asked duties on oil cakes, cattle feed exports to control rising prices of inputs of dairy industry. It also suggested scraping of VAT and excise duty on molasses and value-added dairy products.
